The utilities and apps that we can have on our smartphone are many, we also have at our disposal all kinds of tools and applications to be able to communicate with the rest of the world. We have email, video conferencing and messaging applications that integrate all of these options. For that reason, they accumulate large amounts of information as important messages.
Evidently WhatsApp is the most used application in Spain and in the world. It is the main global social network with 1.600 million users worldwide. Since your purchase by Mark Zuckerberg For about twenty-two billion dollars, the application has undergone changes in its interface, new possibilities and added options that have tried to improve it.
Recover deleted WhatsApp messages
We must have one thing clear and defined when using WhatsApp and it is nothing more than having activated the option "Backups".
And for this we must take into account the tool Google Drive, which has been implemented in the WhatsApp application to help us keep the conversations that we do not want to lose or that by accident, change of mobile or any other circumstance have been lost and can cause us this damage.
Restore using Google Drive
When restore WhatsApp conversations, we must make use of the backup copies of our chats in Google Drive. This will allow us to easily recover old or deleted messages. For it:
- Access the messaging application and click on the 3 points in the upper left corner that give access to the WhatsApp menu
- Within the Settings, access the Chats options and select Backup.
- Choose Save to create a backup to Google Drive or Add a new account. You can choose to save once, daily, weekly or monthly
You have the option to "Save Using" the Wi-Fi only option since if you also choose the data option you can see how your monthly data rate runs out faster than normal. You can also choose whether to copy the videos or not.
Once you restart the WhatsApp history you can restore it from the last copy of Google Drive that you have made.
But…
What happens when you want to recover long-deleted messages?
As we have said so far, we have the option of restoring a backup that we have made previously. But these copies are usually from immediate previous days, and the messages or conversations that we specifically want are not always restored. In order to restore these copies, we have already seen how we have to proceed to recover messages deleted from less than seven days ago.
Once the aforementioned steps have been carried out, you must uninstall WhatsApp and reinstall it. When it starts we select to restore the backup, and we will see how old messages less than seven days old appear again in chats. Now, when we want to recover them from a longer time ago, what can we do?
This process is somewhat more complex and has its risks, since you could delete your most recent messages.
The first thing you have to do is copium dthe content in the WhatsApp / Database folder. This folder can be found in the internal or external memory of your mobile depending on how you have configured it.
The normal thing is that you connect your mobile phone to the computer using a USB cable, and look for that folder within the files of the device.
Once the folder is copied, you must paste it into a folder that you create on your computer, then uninstall WhatsApp and open the folder that you have created on your computer. Once inside, delete the file called "msgstore.db.crypt7" or "msgstore.db.crypt8". Then select the backup you want to recover and change the name: "msgstore-Year-Month-Day.1.db.crypt7" by "msgstore.db.crypt7".
Download and install again WhatsApp but Do not open it. The next step is to connect your mobile to your computer and copy the file msgstore.db.crypt7 "WhatsApp / Database" on your phone.
Once this is done you can now open the application and when you select the option of "Restore”All your old messages will appear.
Depending on your version of Android, or your smartphone, the names of the files and the way to proceed may vary, although it is very similar, it would be the following:
Open the file manager of your mobile or you can download one from the Play Store of your choice. And the steps you must follow are very similar:
- Run the app and access the following path: sdcard / WhatsApp / Databases.
- Change the name of the file you want to restore from msgstore-yyyy-mm-DD.1.db.crypt12 a msgstore.db.crypt12. In this step it is very important do not alter the extension number, that is, if it is .crypt12, it should be kept in both files.
- Then uninstall WhatsApp and reinstall it from the Google Play Store.
- Press on Restore and the old conversations of the application will be loaded.
It is a process that can be somewhat complicated, so if you perform it and execute an operation in the wrong way, you can lose the history, or damage the file and make it impossible to recover these messages, so it is always up to you to decide what are you going to do.
Recover deleted WhatsApp messages on iOS
In order for you to make a backup of your WhatsApp chat history on your iPhone, the first thing you need is an iCloud account.
Assuming that the minimum requirement is that your device has iOS 5.1 or later, you must access iCloud from "Settings" → "iCloud" and once here, activate the option "Documents and data"
Make sure you have enough space in your iCloud account to be able to save your WhatsApp chat history, as conversations, photos, videos and audios will be saved. You also need to have free space on your iPhone to create the copy.
Configure WhatsApp to protect your conversations
If you want to save and recover conversations deleted by mistake, you will have to configure your WhatsApp first of all since otherwise it will not be possible.
Setting it up is simple, you just have to follow these steps:
-
Open the “WhatsApp"
-
Select "Configuration"
-
Now we look for the option "Cat"
-
And then we will click on "Chat backup"
Here you can choose when you want to make the copy (daily, weekly, monthly) and you have the option to also save the videos. You must bear in mind that videos take up a lot of space and you can run out of it for the rest of the information, and except for some videos, most of them are expendable.

- Select "Restore backup" and voila, you will have the conversations that we had accidentally deleted.
What's new in the latest WhatsApp updates
Among the newer updates you have received lately, we have the option to transfer money through this app, although for now it is only available in India and the United Kingdom.
Add dark mode, how fashionable it is now in most applications we use.
Add friends by QR, Like the famous SnapChat app, WhatsApp will allow you to add the contacts of your acquaintances without having to register them in the contact list.
Y Animated Stickers, Although the application allows the use of gift in chats, the loading system is complex since they work as a short image or video. To do this, the developers have provided a sticker system that allows images to be sent as messages.
It has even included the option of not allowing them to add you to groups, for this you must access Settings or Configuration / Account / Privacy, and in this section "Groups" will appear with three possibilities.
In the option Who can add me to groups, WhatsApp offers three alternatives: Everyone, My contacts and My contacts except ..., an option that follows offers the possibility of restricting inclusion in groups quite a bit.
