Android vs iOS: which is better?

It has long There has always been controversy, or the confrontation between iOS and Android, about which is better, simpler, more operational ... Or even which one can mark the mere fact of marking a «status» referring to brands premium. The brand war is always present, it is like comparing Audi and BMW, Nintendo or Sony, etc. The same happens with Android and iOs.

Clearly the marketing team of the brand of the bitten apple is impressive, they know how to sell a product, and how to create an expectation as few brands know how to do. Android, on the other hand, being a free system, which is used by many different brands of smartphones, does not have a department as such.

In the case of the android, each brand sponsors its product linked to the Android operating system, but without emphasizing that, if not more on its own brand, be it Samsung, Realme, Oppo, etc. and in the processor that it mounts, or the type of screen, the operating system being something obvious that does not need more publicity.

But today we are going to talk, not only about operating systems, but also about what each one entails, the possibilities that they can offer us at the user level and if one can be better than the other.

Android vs iOS: which is better?

The battle of Android vs iOs

Apart from controversy, and biased positions, we are going to talk about both operating systems with the greatest objectivity that can occur in this case.. We are neither fanboys of Apple and its iOs, nor of other brands that have Android inside.

Talking about iOs is already on its version 13.5, and there is already a beta version of version 14, which will not be available until September 2020. We will see the news that this beta version entails on another occasion, today we are going to talk about the latest version and its news in iOs.

This update 13.5 includes a series of news that is focused on health issues, so topical at the moment. Since it includes an option in Settings> Privacy> Health through which you can know if you have been in contact or proximity with someone infected with Covid19, you must activate it for it to work.

Another novelty is in the part related to security, specifically in facial recognition. As at the moment the use of masks is mandatory, it can cause problems when unlocking and a system has been added that detects the masks and denies the unlocking, going on to request the code that you have established.

Apple or Android

Many of the functions that iOs includes were already picked up by Android a long time ago, you can call it copying or simply borrowing ideas from a system to use in the other competitor. In short, everything is heading towards the same point, and finally what is sought is that the user can enjoy their smartphones even more, regardless of the operating system they mount.

Fluency vs Personalization

If we talk about fluency we can say that iOs is a little step ahead of Android, but it does not mean that it is better or worse, if not that Apple assembles its own processors destined to move its own operating system. Therefore most applications and their own interface is created with maximum optimization.

Two operating systems one user

While If we talk about Android, we will say that it is customizable to unsuspected limits, being able to leave it to your liking, without forgetting that Android 11 is more fluid than ever, with nothing to envy to iOs. Which is already including outstanding elements for customization, such as widgets (something that Android has had for centuries ...), AppLibray, which is the classic android application box, and allows you to easily group the applications to minimize the number of pages on the home screen.

Freedom vs Limits

It has always been said that iOs is much more restricted and bounded for developers and application creators, since they must submit to the specifications indicated by the Apple brand, while Android is total freedom. Since you can even create different Roms with hardly any restrictions, and applications of any kind.

This works for and against both, since iOs' airtight policy forces content creators to abide by its demands in favor of the fluency mentioned above. But it goes against that freedom and number of applications that exist on Android. Which is not bad since the quality policy is detrimental to products of little relevance or that do not imply improvement of the final product.

On the contrary, the freedom of Android and its open code allows any user with knowledge to modify it to their liking. And create freely using the APIs and libraries developed by Google engineers, in order to implement them in applications that give rise to very powerful tools of excellent quality.

Android and iOS which is better

However, you can already change iOs applications for certain activities, that is, you can use different clients to surf the internet, or use your email. Since you can finally use Google Chrome, or Gmail on your iPhone or iPad, instead of using Safari or the specific email. Therefore we can say that the door is being opened by Apple.

It is also curious that Android, and by extension Google, are more closely monitoring the quality and accessibility of the different apps developed. Thus slowing down a bit that total freedom or the free bar that existed, since with Google Services the privacy of the user is taken care of more. Thanks to storage scope that prevents third-party applications from accessing all of the phone's storage, which implies that developers adjust to the new Android policies.

Personal assistants

Another typical feature of both systems are their personal assistants: Siri for iOs and Google Assistant for Android.

In my personal experience I prefer Google Assistan, I find its use easier, it understands the commands better, there are infinite possibilities and implementation with other appliances in the house, and its versatility with different apps make it more useful than Siri, but this is my personal opinion.

Google Assistant vs. Siri

Although with iOs 14 Siri has improved a lot, it is less intrusive on the screen and allows us to continue viewing content without opening an extra screen, understands the commands better, contains a series of shortcuts that improve performance, but today it does not reach its maximum competitors, in my humble opinion.

Keyboard

I want to mention this section since it is one of the tools we use the most on any smartphone or tablet, either for messaging applications, to search the internet, etc. It is something fundamental in the daily use of our devices.

Android includes Gboard, and iOs implements its own distinctive keyboard. While the keyboard of Android includes options such as slider or sliding writing, or searching for emojis, shortcuts, searching the clipboard to paste something, even the news search with its "G" button, integrated translator ... That is, it is very complete and versatile.

On the other hand, the iOs keyboard is one of the most precise in its use, and with a very careful software development in that regard. And in his approach to Android he has included the search for emojis on his keyboard, By this I do not mean that they are copied, yes, but ultimately an optimization is sought that is only for the benefit of the end user, which is us.

Applications

It is evident that each operating system has a series of functions and applications that the other does not have, or not so well developed. And although this difference is less with the passage of time, we speak for example of the more than settled IOs Air Drop, with no apparent rival on Android. Although at present it is being worked on with the application of NearbyShare, or what is the same file transfer, without the need to use the internet and compatible with any device, whatever the brand.

Imessage, Face Time, etc are exclusive to Apple, while on Android you can find Duos, Whatsapp ... while working in RSC chat, that will retire the old SMS. Since with it, many of the services that messaging apps allow will be implemented, at no cost to the user, but implemented on smartphones in a native and optimized way.

Notifications

In this section, We see a breakthrough when it comes to iOs, as it has improved the intrusiveness of some on-screen notifications. For example, the call notification that occupied the full screen has changed to a more comfortable curtain notification, to decide whether or not to answer the call without stopping using the application that we have open.

IOs 13 notifications

While on Android they are perhaps better organized, with a greater possibility of interacting on it, and with a more neat appearance. It does not mean that one is better than another, that depends on the user, but between you and me there is no color.

Android and iOs loves forever

In short, they are two systems condemned to go hand in hand, even if it is along parallel paths. And only you can decide which one you like best, regardless of the money you are willing to spend.
